Shan McHale graduated from Glasgow Shool of Art in 1991 with a major international painting scholarship. She has since travelled and exhibited widely in Europe. Shan’s early work was inspired by the dark brooding colours of the Scottish landscape and although abstract, contained a suggestion of planar depth. As it has developed, the affinities with landscape disappeared and has been replaced by work that is strictly two dimensional and which explore relationships of scale, colour and surface. Shan describes her work as sensual and musical. She has great admiration for Dubuffet, Dufy, Soutine, Basquiat, Rothko, Scott and Diebenkorn. # sm000 |
