Home Harbour Arts Centre, Inrvine This is the first time Keith Salmon and Alison Thomas are exhibiting together in a joint-show ... with a selection of some 40 paintings between them. The two artists present a wide variety of style, techniques, mediums and grounds for you to appreciate and enjoy. Most of the work on show is available for sale.
Keith Salmon is registered blind. Over the years his work has developed along two paths - the organised scribbles that are his drawings and the bolder, broad marks in oil or acrylic. His most recent work combines these two techniques to create rich and lively paintings.
Keith works from a studio at Courtyard Studios at Irvineīs Harbourside, Scotland. He continues to exhibit his work in both local and national settings including the North Ayrshire Openīs, Racquet Hall, Eglinton, Irvineīs Harbour Arts Centre, Gallimaufry Gallery, Blairmore, Argyll and BlindArt National Collection - currently touring the UK.
Much of Keith's recent works is based on his experiences while out walking in the Scottish Highlands. He skillfully employs his unique techniques to create rich and vigorous paintings. ''Towards Dalwhinnie was one of my studies around Dalwhinnie in search of material for a recent commission by an advertising company for promotion of a Scottish whisky.''
''I have developed a method, which I call 'scribbling' where accuracy is not necessarily the intention. My work is concerned with texture and surface.''
Keith Salmon studied Fine Art at Shrewsbury and Falmouth Schools of Art. He originally trained and worked as a sculptor and gradually turned to painting on realising he was loosing his sight. In 1998 Keith moved to Ayrshire and set up at the Courtyard Studios, Irvine - his wonder-pieces adorn the four walls of his studio.
