Offers Apprenticeship Oppotunity to... Artists with Autism An inclusive fine art gallery is due to open in Edinburgh’s New Town end of March this year. 'the gallery on the corner' at 34 Northumberland Street, Edinburgh EH3 will provide artists who have a disability, mental health problems - or those from a disadvantaged background, with a platform to exhibit and sell their artwork in a high profile location in the heart of Edinburgh’s gallery district. Four studio spaces beneath the commercial gallery are available for rental to practising artists who will work with apprentices with an Autism Spectrum Condition. 'the gallery on the corner' is the first social firm from Autism Ventures Scotland ... part of the Autism Initiatives Group established to create employment opportunities and experiences for young people with Autism Spectrum Condition in Scotland. Autism Ventures Scotland will be offering apprenticeships and other opportunities to 16-25 year olds with Autism Spectrum Condition in both retail and art practice. The apprenticeships will include on-the-job and vocational training under supervision of experienced artists ... resulting in a recognised qualification. And the practicing artists who rent the studios will have the opportunity to sell their own work through the gallery. 'the gallery on the corner' will also sell crafts by indivdual artists and art groups that fit their selection criteria - and would be interested in hearing about possible suppliers as well. The managers at 'the gallery on the corner' continue to look for artwork submissions from artists who meet their criteria - and for practising artists to rent their studio spaces ... and be involved in this rare, challenging and potentially highly fulfilling venture.
