Offline Promotions

Finally, but by no means least, we come to an essential promotional strategy. Take every opportunity to market your Web presence, offline. There are a number of actions you can take immediately to effect this strategy.

First, make sure that your Web address and email address (if you have one) is clearly visible on EVERYTHING which leaves your office:
  • Letterheads
  • Business Cards
  • Leaflets
  • Brochures
  • Catalogues
  • Sales Material
  • Invoices
  • Shipping labels
  • Flyers
  • Newsletters
  • Envelopes
  • Fax Header
You’ve got to let the world know you’re out there in every way you can. We’re still amazed that businesses overlook this, especially when it makes such sense. You wouldn’t think of producing your letterheads for instance without your telephone and/or fax number would you? So why would anyone omit their Web site and email details?

Well we don’t know the answer to that one. It is strange in the extreme. But you’ll not be like that, right? We are sure you’ll always keep it simple ... you’ll always make it easy for people to contact you both online and offline.

And don’t merely leave it at your business stationery. Highlight your Web details on everything else connected to your business:
  • Cheques
  • Adverts
  • Audio/Video Labels
  • Packaging
  • Vehicles
  • Promotional Gifts
  • Plastic Bags
  • Containers
  • Boxes
  • Voice mail messages
  • TV/Radio advertising
  • Press Releases/Articles
  • Yellow Pages
Have a good look around your work premises. What do you use in the course of your business? What do your customers see regularly?

Have a brainstorming session. Remember, everything that comes into contact with a prospect/customer, or is seen by them, offers you a mini-marketing opportunity. Use it!

Something else you should also consider is tagging a catchy phrase or benefit to your URL. For example, rather than simply printing:

http://www.zednet.co.uk/yoursite

Print:

Quality Wines at Great Prices
http://www.zednet.co.uk/yoursite

Or how about tagging an offer with the address:

For your FREE bottle of red wine:
http://www.zednet.co.uk/yoursite

Just tagging a simple phrase or sales message onto your URL in this manner is enough to pull people to your site. It gives them a reason to take a look.

Note: If yours is a purely local business, promoting your Web presence offline is going to be critical. You absolutely MUST get that URL on EVERYTHING connected to your business.

Furthermore, you should also consider incorporating interesting and useful local information or links into your Web site, and not just information pertaining to your businesses products/services. Remember, always try to come up with reasons for your target audience to visit your site be they local or global.
